Butte, Montana today has one of the deadliest open mining pits in the world.  Mining in Butte drew immigrants from all over the world in the early 1900’s.  It’s vast resource was copper.  In the early 1900’s, Butte became the largest city between Seattle and Chicago.  It had claim to the 3rd skyscraper in the nation.  And, it was the first electrified city in the United States.

Butte had a mixed bag of issues.  Gambling, corruption, drugs, alcohol and prostitution thrived.  In the day, you could easily say it was a city that placed it’s stamp on the wild west.

Our episode this week takes us into the underbelly of Butte.  We discover Butte through one of several underground tours.  Of course, there’s a lot more to Butte, and we’ll uncover that on another show.  Today’s episode will take you below the sidewalks to see an amazing historic era!
